A DAY ON THE GREEn CELEBRATES 200TH SHOW ...... TWICE!

A DAY ON THE GREEN CELEBRATES 200TH SHOW ...... TWICE!

After nine years, more than one million happy patrons and some of the best concerts ever presented on Australian shores, the popular winery series ‘a day on the green’ celebrates its 200th show later this month.

And because it is such a significant milestone, we’re doing it not once, but twice! Due to the event’s popularity, there are many occasions where two ‘a day on the green’ concerts are staged on exactly the same day with different artists in different states.

By happy coincidence, the 200th show falls on one such weekend. We will be celebrating with Tom Jones at Bimbadgen Estate, Hunter Valley NSW and with Diana Krall at Peter Lehmann Wines, Barossa Valley SA – both shows on Saturday February 27.

The 200th event was originally planned for a later show, but two ‘a day on the green’ concerts were part of the recent cancellation of Rufus Wainwright’s Australian tour due to the death of his mother, bringing the date forward to February 27.

For promoters Michael and Anthea Newton of Roundhouse Entertainment, the milestone is a momentous one, and acknowledges just how much this wonderful event has been embraced by artists and music lovers since the very first show in January 2001.

The idea of combining music with magnificent winery locations was not new, although opera and jazz were the dominant musical genres. Roundhouse Entertainment was the first to build a complete brand package, an “experience” combining the best Australian and International artists with carefully selected wineries, offering a day of good food & wine, good company and of course great music. It’s a phrase often repeated, but still remains true – it is ‘the Big Day Out for Grown-ups’.

‘a day on the green’ is Roundhouse Entertainment’s ONLY business, enabling the company’s full attention to be focused on the winery events, unlike other music promoters who stage concert tours all year round. It’s this loving attention to detail that has enabled ‘a day on the green’ to build an incredibly loyal following, to consistently have capacity crowds at events all around Australia and to provide such a huge bonus to local tourism in the winery regions.

‘a day on the green’ has undeniably changed the Australian concert arena for ever. No wonder other promoters have been so keen to follow into the winery market.

‘a day on the green’ has spawned two albums, three TV specials and four years ago crossed the Tasman to successfully launch at three wineries in New Zealand. The event is known by all international agents and artists worldwide, and Roundhouse is hotly pursued by artists keen to play or to request return visits.

International artists who have performed for ‘a day on the green’ include Bryan Adams, Joan Armatrading, The Beach Boys, Jackson Browne, Joe Cocker, Leonard Cohen, Elvis Costello, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Alicia Keyes, John Fogerty, Chris Isaak, Norah Jones, Diana Krall, John Mellencamp, The Pretenders, Lionel Richie, Simply Red, Steely Dan & Rod Stewart.

Australian artists who have performed for ‘a day on the green’ include Tina Arena, Jimmy Barnes, Clare Bowditch, John Butler Trio, Troy Cassar-Daley, Kate Ceberano, Kasey Chambers, Richard Clapton, Diesel, Tim Finn, Renee Geyer, Hoodoo Gurus, Paul Kelly, Missy Higgins, Pete Murray, James Reyne, Mark Seymour, The Church, Tim Rogers, The Waifs, The Whitlams & Ross Wilson.

The remaining tour runs to complete the 2009/2010 summer season are headlined by Rob Thomas (touring currently), Diana Krall & Madeleine Peyroux (commencing Feb 23) and Tom Jones (commencing Feb 27).

Happy Birthday to us!
